I presume Jim you are refering to the narrow door non Q type.
These cabs were known as 'fully weather-clad'. They were available as just the bare frame, (un-clad) built up with the windscreen panel and a red canvas sides, (with acetate windows) roof and rear roll-up window clip-down panel, all as one 'cover' that was called 'weather-clad or full metal cladding with black plastic/propolene roof known as 'full metal-clad'. The early ones were coloquially called 'high-cab' and the designation/serial plate fixed to them had the models they were to fit stamped in them and 'Harrison McGregor Guest' printed on it together with the safety approved kite mark.

Hi Jim

Do you mean the photo album on the menu above to the left? If so the cab on the 996 is known as the VQ cab (VERY QUIET) it is the MK 2 version to the original Q cab known as the (NARROW DOOR Q CAB) the VQ was the improved version with better access some interiour padding on the roof and behind the front cab frame supports.

also this cab came with a window washing resviour located on the right hand side of the cab ect...

There a nice cab but the side panels were prone to rusting badley jue to water getting traped in the rubbers at the bottem of the side panels the Q cab and Highcab had the same problem.

Regards

James

Hi Jim,

Would wings from a 990 fit a 995? I looked at pictures of both on the DBTC photo album and they look the same.

I know Griffiths & Son have wings available for a 990 (shell type - not square).

Interesting firm, worth having a look anyway.

Jim. My apologies but you will have been confused over some of the answers. The cab on the 996 in the photo album is the first version of the Q cab. It is commonly called the narrow door version and was introduced in 1976 to comply with recently introduced noise legislation.

You can tell that it is a Q cab by the hump on the bonnet leading up to the windscreen.

It isn't a "fully weather clad", these were earlier cabs. Neither is it a wide door Q cab model, this came later.

The sides were fixed metal, just the same as the roof and windscreen. The only options you had were either a roll-down canvas rear window with a plastic see-through section or a fixed metal rear window with some glass. And when they were introduced you had a heater option. I don't know if this became standard later on.

are you sure that it is not a wide door cab, because as db cabs go this photo of the 996 has the widest door fitted to any of the db cabs excluding the 90 series of course,
have another look!!!

You are right, Joe. The cab is one of the second generation of Q cabs, known as the VQ.

I'll do some research, this is one I bought earlier !

This is a wide door Q cab. It says so. Copyright eBay.

Aplogies. The 996 in the photo album is a wide door. There wasn't that much difference in the size of the door but the door upper window profile was different, as was the rear of the cab.

There was a big difference when you were trying to get in, scooby. The side windows are also smaller and they open on the VQ cab.

The VQ cab was a grand cab with much better access! We may be able to help you out jim we have an odd ball tractor at home for breaking with an average VQ cab i think theres good wings on the cab but one of them is bent up above the wheel i will have to see because i may use the cab myself.
