Q Plate on 1490

Hi
I have recently tried to reclaim the original 1983 y plate registration for my david brown 1490. Initially I received a letter back asking for a photograph of the chassis number, after another 6 weeks (today) I received a letter telling me the tractor had been allocated a q plate. The tractor came with a number plate and a number of tax discs with the number clearly displayed however the dvla has showed no interest in this. I intend to call them first thing Monday and question them about this as when the original registration is entered into any online reg check it comes up with all the correct details showing it is obviously still registered on their system.
The letter starts: "After a thorough investigation of our records and from the information received from you we have noticed that the changes you have made no longer justify the use of the registration number K** ***Y. Your vehicle will be issued with an alternative 'Q' registration number as we are unable to determine the age of your vehicle."
Not only have I told them twice in letters that the vehicle dates from 1983 but surely they can work this out from the Y registration anyway? What can I do?
The form to register the q plate has a huge amount of information requires that I could never fill in including exhaust emissions, original dealer and the date first registered anyway!! Not to mention various towing weights body types and loads of dimensions.

In the event of you having even one old tax disc showing the original registration that should be evidence enough for DVLA to grant you with that registration. Also as it is showing on the database as 'live' then again there is no reason for them to refuse you. I would ignore everything and start again, the best way to do it is to download the form (V65 I think) 'application for a replacement V5C registration document, fill it in with the required details and any that are not relevant, like axle weight, seating capacity etc, leave blank, I think there is a £25 admin fee but seeing that the tractor is still on the system you should have no problem in obtaining the document with the original registration.

Hi,

try contacting or Tractor Registrations man at the club Peter Murray - go to contacts (top left of page under main menu) click down to the tractor registrations and contact Peter - he does this all the time and knows what to do and is in contact with DVLA on a regular basis.
If the chassis number on the tractor does not match EXACTLY with DVLA records they will throw it back - Contact Peter, there is a charge but its better than de-valuing the tractor with a dreaded Q plate.

Cheers

Andy

a couple of years back I acquired a ford 4ooo perforce this came with a registration plate but no V5, when I contacted DVLA they informed me it was no longer on the register and I would have to apply for an age related plate but would need to confirm all the details were correct through the rellivent club.
all the chassis no engine no etc matched and were correct Blue Force charged me £25 to verify the details and countersign the paper work, DVLA charged me £50 to register the tractor, the forms and a cheque were sent and then I waited and waited almost 5 months later nothing so I rang them and they said they would look into it, 2 weeks later I received a letter informing me that they had good news the tractor had appeared on the register and I would have to send them another cheque for £25 for a replacement log book
im not over sure how good the search is, I did eventually get my log book and a tax disc but it took almost 6 months.

If they discovered that the tractor was still on the register then they should have reimbursed you the £50. Robbing useless bumholes!
