David Brown 1690 turbo - how many were made?

Posted by RDay on 2013-03-08 13:33:00

A good friend of mine has just acquired not one but two David Brown 1690 turbo models, circa January 1983-December 1983.

For the purposes of putting together a news story for Classic Tractor magazine, we are curious to know how many 1690 turbo models were produced during 1983?

A figure as low as 100-120 has been suggested, but we really don't know for sure. It would be interesting to find out.

1690T starts at serial no 11214371 and ends at 11214872 nov 1982 to Oct 1983 which makes 501 it then became the 1694 in Nov 1983

Hi Jim
Brilliant info, many thanks for this. Perhaps not as rare as we thought, but still a low number.

One further question. Was the 1690 turbo sold outside the UK and if so in what sort of numbers or in which countries?

Hi Rory,

sorry cannot answer the question but this topic a while ago makes interesting reading particulary the comments made by Mike Brogden re power outputs in North America, may be worth looking at for future reference in CT or the article you are planning, only highlighting as not sure how often you come onto the forum.

Keep up the good work at CT

Cheers

Andy Armer.

Hi
There seems to be quite a few in ireland.I have 2 and they are only 5 numbers apart,
1 was an import from the uk and the other was is original irish registered tactor,
I have had the chance to buy 3 others, 2 of these were repainted case colours and badged 1694(one owner told me he thought it was worth more as a 1694 in case colours)
Neville's is probably the best example i have seen & Calvin is also restoring 1 or maybe 2 now.And i think there are other members in here who own some but i cant remember who.
regards mick

There were 4 or 5 new ones came to Castlederg around 1983 and a lot of people in other areas in Ireland told about them working. I also wondered about how many were exported.
Ours can be seen at The Porter Trailers and Tractors open day, toy show and tractor run on Sat 11 May, also thinking of leading the tractor run with it (driver is already booked!)
