Will it fit

Are final drives of 880 imple / 880 selecta / 885 interchangeable?

I have an impression that 880 selecta has the same castings with 990 and the gears also, but 885 has, I think different casting and different ratio.

If the parts are interchangeable, putting more road speed to 880 selecta could be done by changing the final drives from 885. Any experience? Thanks.

I have never tried to intrchange these final drives but an 885 one is smaller than the 880. I could lift and replace an 885 complete but not an 880 one.

The best way to get more road speed out of an 880 is to fit 12x32 rear wheels and tyres. This makes it a lot faster.

Yes, our selecta has got them and it runs something 18..19 mph. Modern tracors here run 25+ mph.
Its big difference if there is a 200 mile ride waiting.

200 miles cant be any record, I have done that a few times. Rock around a clock and its there. 990 drinks the tank empty in about 140 miles if there is only light load on trailer, I tried that too.
Sounds grazy, but its common to plough, harrow or harvest potatoe 12 hours in one day. Driving on road is very easy and comfortable with compared to that.
Honestly, even in shorter distances, say from 10 to 30 miles its more fun to do that by a littel quicker DB.
Fellows here have put quick final drives to several six pots and now they dont seem to care if the job is some tens of miles away.

Its all very well to attempt to gain a little more speed from an older tractor but you must remember that these were not built for either high road speeds or great ditances. Speed on these tractors is limited because of safety for one thing. How many tractors have overturned because they have started bouncing or have become uncontrolable because 'the pump has been opened up'. You also have legal obligations. An agricultural tractor of older types are restricted by law not to travel any more than 20mph on the road and also not to travel a greater distance than 18 miles in any one journey both ways. The majority of David Brown tractors were rated to travel at a top road speed of 14.5mph and at that speed and in the right hands are perfectly safe. Please everyone, think before you tinker with speed, don't kill youselves or anyone else just because you don't think your tractor is fast enough, if you want more speed, get a car.

885 9/37 ratio, 880 11/49 or 9/50 ratio, i think they are interchangable, your 880 probly has 11/49 ratios and changing them to 9/37 ratios would give you about 8% speed increase

if you want to go fast get some legal advice,or buy a motor bike!

Thanks. I have already got two cars and three bikes, able over 130 mph.
8 per cent increase for 880 is not much. I think, I will skip the idea.

Dear Lords!!
We do have cars and bikes in Finland. I have over 15000 flight hours.
We also have long distances to drive with tractors. That is a fact.
Max speeds for DB's in the 50's 60's and even 70's were quite ok.
But 90- and 94-series are too slow. 40kmph (25mph)is minimum.
That's why Valmet took markets in Finland in the 80's.
We don't have any restrictions how long distances we drive.
25mph for 90 or 94-series is safe.20 mph for noncap tractor is safe.
My 1594 Hs moves nearly 30mph with normal rpm it's very ,very nice to drive. The range of the HS -gearbox is optimum .
It's a very modern tractor now.
